Gluten free Ibiza: Restaurant Guide

Being gluten free, by necessity or choice, can make dining out a challenge. Fortunately in Ibiza diners have a plethora of options, ranging from organic Italian to traditional Spanish. Not to mention the always delicious option of tortilla, or a plate of Manchego cheese and jamon Serrano. Wherever you go, be sure to let your server know about your allergy so they can ensure your dishes are completely gluten free.

Can Curuné
Location: Cr/ Sant Joan 17,0
Best for: Spanish favourites
About: The North’s neighbourhood restaurant, Can Curuné also caters beautifully to the gluten-free eater. They are one of the rare restaurants whose menu is clearly marked with allergens, including gluten, nuts and dairy, so you know exactly what is in your food. They do inexpensive, delicious Spanish classics including the best pimientos padron on Ibiza and salt-baked fish for about half the price of any seaside restaurant.

Sushi Santa Eulalia
Location: C/ Margarita Ankermann 19, Santa Eularia
Best for: Unpretentious sushi
About: This tiny restaurant and take-away spot at the top of the Santa Eularia bus station knocks most other sushi restaurants into a cocked hat. On an island where price is too often seen as a mark of quality, Sushi Santa Eularia is reasonably priced and super fresh. They don’t offer a specific gluten-free menu but everything is made fresh so ask for “sin gluten” with gluten-free soy sauce!

Location: C/ Venda de sa Picassa, 4, Santa Gertrudis
Best for: Creative health food
About: Don’t let the narrow entrance fool you. EcoCentro boasts a huge, beautiful garden where you can dine beneath lemon trees or, in cooler seasons, beside a toasty fire. They do a terrific three course menu del dia featuring creative vegetarian and vegan dishes for under 20 Euro. On days when none of the options are naturally gluten free they are happy to substitute dishes.

Raco Verde
Location: Sant Josep
Best for: Sharing with friends
About: Raco Verde has a cool, spacious courtyard that will tempt you to spend a whole afternoon there. They serve Mexican-infused tapas, including nachos, chilli and burritos. Much of it is inherently gluten-free, and if you are in any doubt the servers are happy to help and offer a substitute. Of course, there is no gluten in the amazing cocktails or fresh juices!

Can Domingo
Location: C/ Ibiza-San Josep, Km 9,8, Sant Josep
Best for: A romantic meal
About: This family-run organic Italian restaurant near Sant Josep is one of the loveliest spots to dine in Ibiza. On a summer’s night you can relax amidst the trees and watch the stars while the food-loving wait staff delivers your perfect meal. It offers an extensive selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options as well as sumptuous meats and seafood. For an indulgent gluten-free dessert try some of their fabulous artisan cheeses with a glass of wine.

Gluten free eating doesn’t have to be a chore, or a bore, as these restaurants prove. Have a tip for a great place to eat? Let us know!
