Horseback riding offers one of the most memorable ways to experience Ibiza’s natural beauty. It is a chance to get off the beaten path, literally, and explore some of the more remote areas of the island from a different perspective. There are several establishments on the island that give riding lessons but in this post, we focus on three that offer horseback riding excursions regardless of ability. Whether you are a seasoned or novice rider, they will lead you on an unforgettable adventure.
Ibiza Horse Valley
Nestled in the natural park of Es Murta on the north of the island, Ibiza Horse Valley is a unique sanctuary that rehabilitates abandoned or mistreated horses. Founded in 2010, it has spent the last several years rescuing horses and helping them regain their health and confidence.
The horses here live in a herd and roam freely, which is their natural social organisation. As individual horses are able, they are gradually reintroduced to riding. The Valley offers expeditions for riders of all abilities and encourages you to spend time with the horses and choose your own mount. They offer half or full-day expeditions and each ride is lead by two expert guides, for safety.
North Ride Ibiza
This stable located between Sant Joan and Portinatx is in the midst of some of Ibiza’s wildest and most beautiful natural areas. The stables have Spanish and Portuguese horses that are suitable for riders of all levels. When you go, you first spend time getting to know the horses, grooming them, and establishing a rapport. This creates a bond so you can have a more relaxed, enjoyable ride.
There is a variety of riding options available from short rides of about an hour (including the opportunity for a sunset ride with champagne after!) to day-long excursions. If you want to explore in-depth, North Ride can arrange a full weekend outing which includes food and accommodation. Rides need to be booked in advance and can be tailored to the experience of the participants.
Agrotourismo Can Curreu, located just outside the village of San Carlos, has its own stables and offers riding excursions. You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy its stunning surroundings and book an outing with its horses. They offer organised tours for small groups or families, or you can contact them to arrange a bespoke expedition. The surrounding area offers incredible views and the chance to travel slowly on horseback through unspoiled Ibiza countryside.
Afterwards, you can treat yourself to a glass of champagne at the bar, or indulge in a meal at its superb restaurant.
