The president of the Trade Association of Small and Medium Enterprises of Ibiza and Formentera, José Javier Marí, lamented that the weather conditions recorded in the Pitiusas in recent months, with higher temperatures than usual, are negatively affecting the shops on the island, who see their seasonal sales of warm clothing and footwear falling.
“The winter is becoming shorter and it’s a time when there is less commercial activity anyway, because there are fewer people on the island since many take advantage of this time of year to travel,” Marí lamented.
He also referred to possible covert discounts that some traders may already be employing, “We are trying as a group to formulate strategies where discounts are signposted. Whoever makes them, because they are all independent, they need to be properly implemented and well done, although ideally we should all join together to agree to make them earlier this year.”
The president insisted that “we are not banning anyone from doing anything, but we have to improve the way of collectively applying these developments.”
